American Aspen (Pupulus tremuloides)

Myths say that  fluttering aspen leaves converse with messangers from the gods. After a fire, aspens are the first to grow, helping the land.  They have a contiguous root system, making them the largest living being; and contain salicin, the chemical used in aspirin.  In autumn, the leaves turn golden yellow and the forest around the trees smells like sweet ashen sun.
